Nested Database Results

I have a form with several fields that are fed from database results. The
form is used to update a record in the database. I have a problem where
people are updating records with invalid data for one of the fields. I would
like to use a drop down menu on this field fed from another table in the
database to allow users to pick from a list of valid alternatives to the
data currently stored in the record. This would require datbase results
within database results which doesn't seem to be allowed. Any ideas on a way
to make this work or alternatives? Thanks
