new blank docments in word are locked

Im trying to open a new blank page in Word to write a letter and it says the
page is locked, in turn ive open old files and they are all locked as well,
cant find a way to overcome this.....?? any suggestions

Either you have not activated Word (Help | Activate Product) or it is a
trial version that has expired.
