New computer/older software

I am considering purchasing a new computer with Microsoft
Windows XP Professional operating system along with
several choices of bundled software, one of which includes
Microsoft Office and Money. Since I am currently using my
own copy of Microsoft Office (2000)and Money (2003) on my
present computer can I install my personal copies of these
applications on my new computer?

Is this a legal question or a technical one?

1) Legally yes - as long as you remove the copies from your older computer. Actually, in many cases
MSFT may have given you the right to install it on all the computers you own - see if you can find the
"end user license agreement" file on your computer somewhere. Often it is called eula.txt

2) Technically - I don't know but would expect yes, both are pretty recent. Judging from newsgroup
postings some of the really old versions of msft products may have some difficulty, though I don't
know why. In general windows software is backwards compatable - but there are limited exceptions
to this rule.

Microsoft has never given you the right to install Office on as many
computers as you like. It is one desktop and one portable.
