new emails getting stuck in outgoing file and not sending

i just got this laptop lastnight and set up outlook 2007 on it. im able to
receive emails but when i try to send one it gets stuck in the outgoing file.
i can then go to the outgoing file, open the email and hit send again, but
then i get an error message saying that the email could not go through (the
error message is from McAfee email scanning or some such. i realize this is
probably just my security setting being too high or something but i can't
figure out how to change them and make the emails send correctly. any help
would be greatly appreciated.

If you disable McAfee (useless to scan outgoing email - if it is infected already , your system has been toasted previously) can you get it to work?

You might not have your settings correct for your outgoing mail server.
Check with your ISP
