New Office Update CD for SP2

S

summer

I've visited a lot of sites that show people having a whole lot of trouble
with Office Update SP2. My computer is only three months old, so after
reading about all of these problems, I've decided to wait till MS can
fix/patch the problems with this update.

I've read here that a CD is available for this update. Does this CD have
the fixes to repair the problems the update causes? If it doesn't, I'm still
not going to install until the problems are addressed. Thanks much for your
help.

There is actually nothing wrong with the Update. What is wrong when the Update does not install is actually a fault within your OS or Office existing setup.

I had a hard time to install it but I found all the issues that was causing the problem. At least on this end. I corrected them and SP2 installed without a hitch.

Do not blame SP2 as the culprit. The culprit is the persons present Office setup and an issue within. A lot of different fixes were posted on this board which work for some and some others work for the rest.

Look at your present setup and read the fixes according to your issue and you will get SP2 to install.

Your comment "... and some others work for the rest." is not correct. There
are actually many of us holding off. I've tried a lot (if not all) of the
listed solutions and none have worked.

Hi Summer,

The Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Update on CD for US/Canada
won't be available until probably next month. If Microsoft elects
to change the update then the same version would be offered online
and on the CD.

Generally, people having problems are the ones posting (i.e. there
aren't a lot of 'worked great' postings <g> but that is really the
majority. Many of the issues come from something 'broken' with
the original installation, or with one or more 2003 products installed
together and one is broken or including a download add-in or beta
software. Preventitive measures include doing repair reinstall
of the existing 2003 products from their listings in Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows Control Panel.

If you are holding off because you have or someone has an issue installing the SP2 Update then you and they will still have the same issue even if the SP2 CD was available to you.. Did you read the post in this thread by Bob also. I echo the same.

Uninstall/reinstall Office 2003 finally worked for me, but it was the
last item of about a dozen fixes to try. Even then, SP2 hosed my
FrontPage 2002 program, which would not run at all after installing SP2.
FP 2002 co-existed just fine with Office 2003 previously. The FP 2002
problem was reported in Brian Livingston's Windows Secrets newsletter,
so it is not a minor problem associated with the user's computer.

I don't think we can let MS off the hook completely on this one.

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office 2003 cd running , will doing
the update
