New to Front Page XP

S

Scott

I'm new to Web Page creation and have started to create a
web page using Front Page XP templates which I want to
upload to TRIPOD using FTP.
I created a number of "new" pages using the NAVIGATION
view but I can't seem to see them on my "preview in web
browser".
Question is: how do I link these "new" pages to my site
and how do I upload the site once complete?
Any Front Page tutorial sites or recommendations on how
to quickly get up and running with this would be MUCH
appreciated.
Thanks...Scott

Hi, Scott,

To add hyperlinks to new pages, you would need to switch to Page view for
the page to which you want to add the hyperlinks. For example, if you have
a top-level home page and want to add hyperlinks that go to other supporting
pages, you need have the home page opened and displayed in page/design view.
Then you can add hyperlinks to the supporting pages by dragging the
filenames from the folder list at the left of the FrontPage screen into the
page. Alternatively, you can also insert hyperlinks to other pages by
selecting the Insert menu and then Hyperlink. In the Hyperlink dialog box,
navigate to the page you want to link to and click OK.

As far as FTP'ing your Web site to Tripod, you can't do this from within
FP2002 (for Office XP). You can do this from FP2003 (for Office 2003). To
do this with FP2002, you would need an FTP program, such as WS-FTP.

Thanks Lisa....but still having some problems here. I
used NAVIGATION view to add new pages (or sub-pages) but
when I go to the PREVIEW option these pages don't appear
to be linked to anything. What have I done wrong?
Also, I have WS_FTP Pro at the moment but still having
problems uploading the created pages. Hope you or someone
can help me out....
Thanks...Scott

You should not be using WS_FTP. You should be publishing the web from
FrontPage (File, Publish Web) or components that require the FrontPage
server extensions won't work and you can corrupt the extensions. You may
need to have your ISP re-install them.

OK...
Still don't know how to create a NEW PAGE and have it
appear in the linkbar or be associated with the linkbar
shown on the HOME Page.
Is there anywhere on-line that I can take a short course
on how to create a web site using FRONT PAGE 2002
(OfficeXP)??? I need a crash course!
Thanks....Scott

Hi, Scott,

I'm sorry. I misunderstood your earlier question. You need to insert a
Link bar into the page that uses the site's navigation structure. If you
want the link bar to appear on more than one page or on all the pages in
your site, you would need to use shared borders. You can locate help for
both of these online as well as in the help included with FrontPage. You
can also find tutorials that will walk you through creating web sites that
use these.

Also, as Dave said earlier, you are unable to FTP a site that uses these
features. Because these features rely on the FrontPage server extensions,
you should publish your site through the FrontPage publish capabilities.
Since the FPSEs live on the server, you will need to check with your
Internet Service Provider (ISP) to make sure that they are installed on
their servers. If you have problems publishing your site through FP, please
check with your ISP to make sure that the server extensions are properly
installed and configured.

To understand FrontPage a bit better, I would recommend picking up a quick
start guide from your local bookstore or library. In addition, you can find
help and tutorials for FrontPage 2002 at
http://office.microsoft.com/assista...ID=CH010422531033&CTT=6&Origin=HA010346751033.

You will probably find more answers to your questions in the
microsoft.public.frontpage.client newsgroup. The programming newsgroup is
specifically for questions about Web development (HTML, scripting, ASP,
etc.) and add-in development (VBA), while the client newsgroup is for
questions about the FrontPage application and user interface.
