New user Main Identity issue

I had major calendar issues (duplications and meeting time changes) with
Entourage 2004 (even after doing a clean SL install, removing 2 suspect
fonts, changing Pacific time to Azores time, etc. etc etc.) that I bought
Office 2008. Set up a new user account, installed 2008, and converted an old
2004 identity backup, then used save search to save to bring in current
emails.

Entourage 2008 ran under the new user settings for a week, data is fine and
stable.
My problem now is when I copy the main identity to the primary user account
via time machine or a shared folder I get the following error.

³You don¹t have sufficient permissions to view contents of this folder²
Changed the sharing & permissions of the main identity file, used the disk
utility ap to repair disk permissions, all with no luck......

Then tried moving the main identity over via an old USB HD and got this
error ³The preferences file could not be opened² BUT it did open and my data
was there!
However each time I open Entourage the above error notice comes up. Tried
deleting Entourage Preferences from
user/documents/library/preferences/microsoft/office 2008 in the hopes it
would recreate a new entourage preferences file (which it did) but still no
luck....

In summary, Entourage is working, but would like to fix either the
preferences error or import a pristine file from my other user
account....... IDEAS welcome

Don't, just don't.
The identities are a nightmare to manage through Time Machine. I would
strongly advise to exclude it from the TM backups.
You're going to get nasty corruptions.

That approach shouldn't be a problem though.
You might try to compress the identity before putting it on the flash
drive, but it shouldn't be necessary

Compressed the file, moved the identity via flash to main user account and
still getting the "preferences" error upon opening.

after doing a clean SL install, removing 2 suspect fonts,

There are more than 2 duplicate fonts in Snow Leopard. They are listed here:

Do a Get Info on a new Identity folder that was created in the destination
folder. Now do a Get Info on the one you want to import and change it in the
bottom of this window. You¹ll have to unlock to change.

Well what's weird is that the preferences files are not in the Identity.
They are in ~/Library/Preferences.

Have you tried trashing the com.microsoft files in there (as well as the
ones in the Microsoft subfolder)?

Thanks Diane,
Yes ran the font book app and cleared out remaining duplicates, had also
previously changed the permission (get info) as well to no avail.

However, I was researching another issue with my Crossover program. Their
fix was to see if you had ownership of the home folder. I had permissions
but no ownership.
Simple fix:
In a Terminal window, the following command will show you the ownership and
permissions for your home folder:
ls -lde ~

You can use this command to change the ownership of your home folder and
everything within it to your own user account:
sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~

Ran the above this morning and no longer get the permissions error.

Cheers

I've seen quite a few reports of bad permissions or ownership with Snow
Leopard. Let's hope this bug gets fixed in a future update. Thanks for
sharing your solution.
