No new mail notification?

I apologize if this has been covered before, but I cannot find anything here
or in Technet about it. I am running Office XP SP-2 on Windows XP Pro (w/
current updates). When I receive a new message, I do not get a new mail
notification until I click on a folder other than the one I am in. For
example, if I am in my inbox and I click on Calendar, I will suddenly get a
new mail notification. When I click back to the inbox there will be several
new messages. I am connecting to an Exchange 2000 server that is on the
same switch as my PC. So far it seems that only the Outlook XP (2002) users
have this problem. Outlook 200 seemed fine. It is almost as if my client
is not communicatng with the Exchange server until something is done in
Outlook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I do not think this will apply. There is no Network Address Translation
between me and my Exchange box.
