No page #s appear on 1st 2 pgs after section split in Pub2K3

After creating a section split in Pub2K3, the first 2 pages of the new
section do not show page numbers, although the master page has the "#" sign
on it. All other subsequent pages display the page number in the correct
order . . . what gives?

G

GPSIS

The page numbers are already inserted on the Master Pages, which is why all
of the subsequent pages [that use the same Master Pages after the section
split] has the correct numbers. The only pages that do not show a page number
are the 2 pages [left/right] after the section split. When I try to use the
Insert Page Number option from the menu, nothing happens.

When you select section, there is a choice to continue from previous section in the
dialogue box.

That would be the correct answer if none of the page numbers of the new
section showed up. However, as I said the 1st two pages [left/right] do not
show a page number. All pages after the first two pages of the new section
pickup and show the correct page numbers.

Here's the sceanario; Pub has 30 pages. Pages 1-10 are using Roman Numeral
page numbers. The is a Split entered between page 10 & 11 so I can change the
numbering format just as "HELP" instructed. Page 11 number format is changed
to Latin Numerals, and "Cont. Pg. # From Previous" is checked. Page 11 & 12
ONLY do not show page numbers at all, Pages 13 - 30 pickup page numbers at 13
- 30 in Latin format.

I can duplicate this. Although when you have only one page spread viewed only one
page number is missing. I manually added a text box on the Master Page with the page
number, even then it would not show up. It is a bug for sure and I will report it. My
suggestion would be to manually add the page number on the publication page for those
two pages.

GREAT! You don't know how good it feels not to be crazy! ;)

I also found [admitedly by mistake] a work around of sorts. As I was working
on the pub, I needed to add a new page, but only 1 side. The addition of the
new page caused the section split to be in the wrong spot, so I had to remove
the split, and make the split between two pages that were connected i.e.
left/right, not between two seperate sheets. When I did the split this way,
the page numbers showed up . . . go figure!

Sorry for the gap-in-time; been on vacation!

After "fixing" my problem, a new one has popped up; ala the pealing onion
affect, now that all page numbers show up on the screen, only the first sheet
of the first left/right page after the section split does not print the page
number!

I think I will let you MVPs handle it from here!

Shalom!

When you apply a section, check "Show headers and footers on the first page of the
section." All the page numbers appear when this is checked. Took me awhile to wake
up.
As for printing, if you use the procedure above, all the page numbers should print,
at least they do for me. I have so many useless pages that I have printed
experimenting with this. I guess I've used up my share of trees. Hope this helps.
