No work against task

Dear All
Using MD Project Std 2002
Has anybody noticed a problem when allocating resources to tasks that 0 days
work is allocated. Then it can't be fixed by removing and allocating new
resources. To fix I need to delete the task and recreate completely, or
change to Fixed Work (from Fixed Duration) and hard code work, which is a
pain.
I think it started to happen after I "replaced" resources on these tasks
with other resources.
Is this a sign of corruption of the file?
Any comments welcome.
