Normal.dot & macro?

Hello All,

Did SP2 or any other critical updates create a new normal.dot file?

I can't see a macro that I had written. So I'm thinking that either SP2
update on WinXP Pro or possibly another update over layed the old
normal.dot file. IIRC the macro was in the normal.dot file and now is
gone, hence the question. TIA!

Normal.dot is a Microsoft Word file and not a Windows component.

An operating system service pack would not normally affect an
application file such as normal.dot. However the increased emphasis
on security in SP2 and the fact that document macros are a common way
of spreading viruses/trojans means that I would not rule out the
possibility in this particular instance.

But I have never heard of it happening to anyone else with SP2, and
therefor I believe that it is mostly likely something else that made
the changes to your normal.dot.

You might want to post your question to a Microsoft Word or Office
newsgroup and see if anyone else has experienced a similar event.

Good luck

SP2 makes certain registry changes that might affect the options configured
on your machine. Check whether the macro security settings are now set high
and that the option to trust installed templates and add-ins is still set.

Any code which you want to keep should NOT be in Normal.dot. Keep the
code either in a separate start-up template or in a document template.

Yes I know.

The very reason I asked the question in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.
But I have never heard of it happening to anyone else with SP2, and

the changes to your normal.dot.

Which is why I ask the question here.

I did see my original post was to:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general,microsoft.public.word.docmanagement,microsoft.public.word.vba.general

Maybe I should have been a little more verbose.

Tools | Macros | Security | Security level tab set to high. Tools |
Macros | Security | Trusted Sources tab set to trust all installed
add-ins and templates.

Ok but how does this help me determine what happened to my macro?
