I have Office X student/teacher edition and I opened a document
someone sent me in word and accidently chose to have the new normal
template installed. I cannot open any word documents at all. However,
I can create new ones. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks!

Hi Jenny:

I need to understand what you mean by "accidentally chose to have 'the' new
normal template installed."

If you simply open a document, there should not BE any new Normal template.
If, on the other hand, you open a document that contains a virus, serious
damage to your system could potentially occur.

Which antivirus program are you running, and how long since you updated it?

What happens when you close Word and re-name the Normal template?

Cheers

Hi John,
I think I may have a virus. I was sent a word document and it asked if
I would like to make changes to the normal template when I opened it.
I clicked "save" and I cannot open any of my old word documents. I
tried to fix the problem by deleting the normal template altogether. I
think this sort of worked because I can create new word documents.
However, I do not have my software anymore to reinstall it. I do not
have any type of antivirus program. I was under the impression Macs
didnt get them. Do you think I should just buy a new word program? My
computer is almost 4 years old. Everything else is business as usual
except word. I appreciate your suggestions!

Ok, I was able to check the settings in a new word document. However,
I still cannot open any old word documents at all. I get the message:
Word cannot open the document: Try one or more of the following: Click
open on the file menu, Make sure the document is a Word document."
Does not work. Then it says: "Word cannot save or create this file.
The disk may be full or write protected." I can locate the offending
file but cannot open it. Any other suggestions to restore my Word?
Thank you so much for your help!
