Not link Project resource hours of work directly to an electronic payform, right?

Strasser

I think I am correct in assuming I should NOT try to link my Project
files to any kind of electronic pay form. As Steve described back in
2006, the ONLY hours I'm interested in are those associated with the
tasks, so redundant data entry for those specific hours by that
assigned resource are the price I have to pay. Right?

Steve House, MVP
Project is not designed for payroll accounting. It is designed to
estimate
the costs of getting tasks done based on the hours the resources work
on the
tasks and the cost of each resource per hour. What's missing from the
problem as you've presented it is the tasks they're doing and the
hours that
they are assigned to work on each of them.

You shouldn't try to assign Joe to something until $XX has been used
up. A
task produces a concrete measurable output - 100 widgets are created,
for
example, and it isn't done until that output has been achieved,
regardless
of the cost. You estimate it will take Joe 10 hours to do it. If Joe
get
$10 per hour, the cost of making the widgets is $100. The fact that
Joe
also does other things and gets paid for those other things is outside
of MS
Project's sphere of interest. The only thing it tracks is the cost
doing
the specific work that creates the project's deliverables and nothing
else
is accounted for.

Your assumption is wise, do not link to a pay form. The only hours of
iterest to Project are the hours and costs associtated with the tasks on the
given project.

Steve will be proud.
