Not opening document correctly

H

Howard Brazee

I am still among the frustrated people who "upgraded" Office to 2007.
(I think it is 2007, I did a quick check in my open document to find
the "help about", but failed - but I can't find anything anymore).

The following has happened several times and is frustrating as heck:

I right dragged the .dotx of a document from one LAN folder to
another. It asks me if I am sure, I said yes, and copied it over. I
then right clicked the document and renamed it.

Then I double clicked on it, filled it out, and went to save. Word
has no idea that I am editing an existing document, it wants to know
the name and wants me to find where to save it. Starting with "My
Documents", I have a very slow drilling to get to the correct spot.

Then I save it, then I delete the .dotx document by hand. I have
tried using just the .docx document as my shell but it distorted my
output.

How am I supposed to use .dotx shells so that when I open my document
in a folder I found (in my favorites), Word knows that's where it
should be saved?

I hate to increase your frustration, but you might be better off posting
this to a Word newsgroup, as opposed to Outlook.
