I want to create a page with a number of pictures of different shapes in
publisher but can´t find how to produce different shape objects.
Minimal requirement is to have a page diagonally split.
Any help much appreciated

You can use autoshapes, fill, fill effects, picture tab. There is a downsize to
this method, your pictures could be skewed and not proportional. You also can
insert a piece of clipart, draw a shape around it, group and rotate.

It is a creative thing. Experiment...

You could use a table for the diagonal split, one row, one column, table, cell
diagonals. Put it on the background (Master page) so it won't get in the way of
your other work.

I would suggest that you create the shaped
images in a digital image editing program...
and then import them into Publisher.
