Odd page numbering

I want to number pages of a large document in my unique way. I like
numbering my documents in chapter-page format. For instance, chapter 1 has 4
pages so my numbering sequence would go 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, then 2-1 ...
I've figured out how to include the chapter but the page numbers don't start
again. In the above example instead of 2-1 I get 2-5. Which is wrong,
according to the way I want it.

Right now, I have a different document for each chapter an this works. But
this makes it difficult to creating an Index or TOC.

Any ideas? Or what am I not doing. I've only tried this in Word 97, will I
be able to do this with Word XP?

Thanks. That's an interesting article. I shouldn't have used the word
"unique". What I should have said was "the way the boss wants it".

I've also bookmarked the mvps.org website. I never heard of it until today.
I browsed the site and it seems like it's going to be a very useful
resource. I've found several other MS Office related problems addressed in
the FAQ's. In the future I'll search there, first.

Thanks again!
