Odd Powerpoint error

I'm using Powerpoint X on Panther (10.3.1), and getting an odd &
annoying error. When trying to Insert>Picture>From FIle, the standard
dialog box appears, but the following error message also appears:
"Powerpoint is having problems getting input from the user ()." This
message reappears, usually up to 4 times, after clicking "OK" on the
error dialog box, though it eventually goes away and things proceed
normally. Is this a know issue (confilct of some kind?); is there a
fix?

Just tried it right after repairing permissions - the problem is still
there. I can consistently reproduce it on two machines (G4 desktop &
Powerbook, both with 10.3).

Hi David,

It seems that you will have to experiment a bit on this one. I don't
recall seeing that message before.

The wording hints that there might be a permissions problem. Try
creating a new user in MacOS and see if that user is also affected. If
so, then there's likely to be an installation problem.

If the new user is not affected, then it's time to start trashing
preferences for the user who is affected.

Is there anything special about the image files involved? Unusual format
or source? Foreign language characters in the file names?

I've got exactly the same problem after installing OX 10.3 and its
updates. I've trashed the preferences to no avail. Signing on as another
user does not give the same error - but is not practical, of course.
