Off Page Reference Shape

Jeff

When I place this the Off Page Reference shape inside of an existing shape in
my visio diagram it causes all of the other shapes to shift.

I am trying to link specific shapes to new pages in my visio diagram. I am
trying to do this by placing the shape inside of another shape. Then when
the view clicks on the shape a new page in visio will open.

Am I doing this correctly? If not, what is the best way to accomplish this
task?

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Mark - Thanks for the reply. It has pointed me in the right direction.

When I attempt to paste the formula's referenced in the link you provided
into the Shape Sheet event section I am getting a message that states "Error
in Formula".

For example the first step states to place the this into the Event Drop cell:

RUNADDONWARGS("OPC","/CMD=1")

Is this the way the formula should appear? Or is it only the part in the
parenthesis? Is RUNADDONWARGS part of the formula? Does there need to be an
= sign between the two?

Thanks

Hi Mark - I got the formulas to be accepted in the cell. But I am having
trouble with the EventDblClick formula RUNADDONWARGS("OPC","/CMD=2").

When I place this into the cell and save the sheet and try to double click
in the shape nothing happens. Then when I open up the shapesheet and take a
look I notice that the formula didn't change.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Did you drop the shape on the page before trying double-click? The
EventDrop sets up the shape for the double-click action.

Hi Mark - I really appreciate your assistance.

I have an existing visio diagram where am trying to apply the Off Page
Reference formulas to existing shapes on the diagram. Here are the steps
that I am doing:

1. I click on an existing shape that I want to apply to Off Page Reference.
2. I go to Format on the main menu and select "Behavior". Then click on the
"Double-Click" tab.
3. I click on the "Open shape's Shape Sheet and click on 'OK"
4. I am back on the main diagram and then I double click on the shape and
the Shape Sheet opens.
5. I scroll down to the Events section. In the "EventDblClick" field I key
in RUNADDONWARGS("OPC","/CMD=2"). In the EventDrop field I key in
RUNADDONWARGS("OPC","/CMD=1"). In the TheText field I key in
RUNADDONWARGS("OPC","/CMD=1").
6. I hit save. Then go back to the diagram.
7. I double click on the image and then nothing happens.

I hope that is provides you with more info. If can help me get this working
you will be a life saver!!! :)

Hi Jeff,

I still don't see where you actually drop the shape on the page after it has
the formula in the EventDrop cell. You have to trigger that event. Set up
your shape and then do a copy and paste to drop it on the page. Or drag
your shape over to a stencil and drag it back onto the page.

Hi Mark,

I guess I am not understanding what you mean by dropping the shape on the
page. When I try to modify the shape in the stencil (the green section on
the left) before I drag it over to the page the behavior selection on the
Stencil menu is greyed out. I modified the shape in the diagram as you
suggested and did a copy paste and a new page does open up for me with the
shape in it. I was even able to specify the title of the new page (it
appears as a tab on the bottom). The problem is that when I return to the
main page and double click on the shape I would expect that it would take me
to the new page that was just created. Instead the Shape Sheet spreadsheet
opens up.

I feel like we are getting closer!

Here is the test I tried to do:

Draw a rectangle on Page-1.
Open it's Shapesheet and add the Off-Page Reference formuals to the
EventDrop and EventDblClick cells.
Copy / Paste the rectangle on Page-1.
Accept all defaults in the Off-Page Reference dialog and click OK.
Go to Page-1 and delete the original rectangle.

Now I can double-click on either of the remaining rectangles and jump to the
other page.
