I have had no problems - I just made sure to visit the vendors of my third
party add-ins to get THEIR updates for the SP-3 installation.

uninstall NIS or NAV

I've done exactly the same - everything perfectly updated up to SP2 with no
errors and then total failure with SP3. I've now given up. Maybe someone at
MS will find all the bugs in the update that are causing these problems and
will release SP4.
