Office 2000 keeps installing each time I run an Office app

Whenever I run any program from my Office 2000 suite,
even the Shortcut toolbar, it makes me wait while it
installs itself. Publisher takes it one step further,
saying an error occurred and the feature needs to be
repaired, then forces me to load the disk to complete the
installation.

I have tried uninstalling Office & reinstalling it, but
this makes no difference.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Do an administrative install first. Then install office
from the administrative install path.

eg.

d:\setup.exe /a

I had this problem. I kept getting the installer coming up whenever I tried
running some of my programs. I too tried to uninstall and reinstall with the
same result. Finally I uninstalled using the add/remove and then hunted down
every instance of office on my hard drive. Furtunately my documents were in
a separate folder and untouched. After getting ever instance of office off I
ran a program to clean the registry. Then I defraged that logical drive. So
Office was never on any of my drives.

Then a clean install and it ran fine. I updated not through the office
update system but downloaded the updatyes and ran them from explorer.
Running like a good watch now.

SP3 was the worst part. It never would install from the update screen but
went in fine from a directory after having downloaded and saved it. The sp3
attempts was also the cause of the installer problem. Now it's all clear and
clean. I wish you good luck. You may find your own way. It's just a matter
of trying everything until you find what works for you.

I had this same problem with every app in Office2k Pro
running on XP Pro. In addition to the repeating install
procedure at launch, no Office documents can be opened by
double clicking in an explorer window. They will open
using file_open from the Office app. I have already tried
uninstalling, deleting leftover files, regclean, and a
defrag then reinstalling Office only to the same results.
Any other suggestions? I'm tearin my hair out over this...
