Office 2000 looking for Office 2003 cd?

I'm not a techie and am hoping someone can help me. I own Office 2000 that I
had to reinstall; I downloaded all of the updates. When I want to open a
document, I am asked for an Office 2003 cd, which of course I don't have.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Or even what happened? Thanks.

Specifically what does the dialog box say? Was Office 2003 ever installed on
that computer?

I apologize for the delay in responding (family emergency).

Office 2003 was never installed

Get this - I went back to get the text of the message for you - instead of
getting an error message referencing Office 2003 disk, it went through
initialization and set up process and asked for Office 2000 cd. Now it works.
That is on our laptop. My hubby (more of a techie but who was in the
hospital when I first wrote) tried setting up Office on our desktop pc with
the same results that I initially had. Two persons experienced in downloading
software and updates had the same issues initially, but now all is working?!?
All I did was try to open Word again.
