Geoff,

You missed a couple of steps:

not really
Walk into a room full of volunteers (thinking
they're employees),

first mistake
ask a question, get a rude answer, rephrase the question,
providing more information, get another rude answer, give up on Microsoft
Office, download Open Office from openoffice.org. Live
happily ever after.

I didn't see any rude answers, perhap short and to the
point, started to get a bit testy after the advice (from a
volunteer) that $35 for support was cheap, your response to
this was bought on by your first mistake.

Even the after the 2nd piece of advice was
2nd mistake "milly milly milly " statement

3rd mistake - after realising you were dealing with
volunteers you still went on the attack, a simple did not
know you were vollies, thanks for your assistance would have
probably got a bit more advice.

Never tried openoffice, perhaps it is good, I hope so.

all the best

J

Joanne

Milly,

I'm thrilled with it! All I wanted to do was open the work I'd done in
Microsoft's Office, which Microsoft's Works was incapable of doing. Open
Office opens both seamlessly. And it's free. Thanks for all your help!

Geoff,

Frankly I don't care what you think. I'm using Open Office now, and am
thrilled with it. I'm glad that the customer no-service of Microsoft led me
to find an office package that does everything I need and is absolutely free.

I know Jo, it has been a constant theme in this thread.

I dislike aspects of MS myself, but try not to blame them
for my shortcomings, failure to read documentation, and
inability to remain polite.

I am sure that MS is happy as well, and am sure that
openoffice will provide you with all the support you need.
