Office 2003 Deactivate

H

HalMcCoy

I run Office 2003 on my Desktop and a laptop for travel. I installed on the laptop and within a couple of days my laptop had some major problems. I have upgraded the old laptop and want to put 2003 onto the new one. How do I Deactivate Office 2003 on the old laptop. I am going to move it down the organization and they use Windows XP.

Hi, HalMcCoy,

You don't need to "de-activate"; just uninstall it from the old and
re-install it on the new. If you have trouble with the Internet activation,
use the "Telephone" method and explain the hardware change to the operator.

Sorry, I don't think I posted a response before.

Will I still be able to have it on both machines. Will Microsoft think I have it on three machines and therefore not activate it.

Thanks. Sorry if this posts twice

No.

You can have it on one desktop and one laptop at the same time. You need to
uninstall it from the old laptop and re-install it on the new laptop. When
activating on the new laptop, you'll probably have to use the telephone
method of activation to get it working on the new laptop. You'll have to
choose this, call the number, and explain the hardware change to the
operator.

Yes, as I just called MS rep. yesterday and explained to them the situation
and she is very nice and just gave me the activation numbers.

Personally, I don't like activation strategy which I think will help to
encourage, not to discourage, the pirated software. However, I also feel MS
is trying to make legi users, such as you and me, less painful for their
xxxx decisions.

Another question for Susan since you're MVP here.

Many people asking about the error messages during update Office either for
XP, 2000, and in my case, it's 2003.

The specific error message has been given.

Some solutions have been given but for Office 2003, I have not seen any.

Can you be so kind to help us on this issue?
PS: Once a while, Office Update site will even falsely identified I am using
a noncompatible browser. Why is that? And all these happened right after I
upgraded from Office XP to 2003.
