Ok, I have a strange problem. Something happened to our installation of
Excel 2003 during the install of SP2. We are running it on Server 2003 in a
Terminal Services environment. WSUS updated the server with the SP and the
next morning it was behaving weird. If you click on a shortcut to a file
then the first time it will open, the next time it will say shortcut cannot
be found and open a configuration window that runs and says completed. This
just happens over and over again. If you just click on excel.exe or it start
menu shortcut to excel it will open one time and then the next say "Excel
Safe mode failed. Do you wish to run Detect and Repair?" Yes or No. If you
click yes, it runs and says completed and if you click no it just closes.
Then the process starts over if you click it again. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled all of office, reinstalled the SP from the full download, run the
windows installer clean up tool, and the Office clean up tool, I have even
deleted the HK_CU\software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 and
HK_LM\software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 keys. I have Tried to Detect and Repair
from within Excel and from the install disc and I still get the same problem!
Has anybody ever seen this before?! I could really use some help, I am at a
total loss as to what to try next, and I really don't wont to reload all the
software on this server from a new install
Thanks in advance!
