Office 2003 - How to determine if upgraded or fresh install?

D

davidbre

Is there a way to tell whether an installation of Office 2003 has been
installed clean or upgraded from a previous version?

Is there a way to determine if Office 2000 has every been installed on the
system?

thanks in advance.

Hi David,

In general, you can start with Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows control panel to see if there are any
2000 series MS Office products listed (an older MS Works Suite
could install, for example a standalone Word 2000),
and you can check in the Windows registry for any
Office version 10 (Office2000) listings. These are generally
still there in the HKCU/Software/Microsoft listings after
a 'normal' uninstall.

If you know the particular registry GUID for an Office product
SKU for Office 2003 you may be able to check the registry
but there isn't any thing in the product interface that
says 'upgrade' or 'full packaged product' on the installed
product, but that information is definitely on the CDs used
to install the Office 2003 product.
