I work for a mid-sized corporation running several Windows 2003 and
Exchange servers and close to 1000 client systems all running Windows
2000/XP and Office 2k/XP/2k3. I am currently migrating everyone to
Outlook 2k3 but leaving their existing Office installed. After trying
this on 4 systems, I've found that the components from older versions
give me an error message about the Office Assist not being installed.
I found that the assistant does work with the updated Outlook but not
the rest of the Office components.
A co-worker brought in a book of his on Office 2003 and confirmed my
theory that Outlook 2003 over-wrote these files and that the older
versions cannot use the updated files.
Has anyone else yet run into this problem, and if so, do you know how
I can fix this? I'm not necessarily looking for total compatibility
but simply a way to stop the error messages.
