Office 2003 - Saving in Excel

R

Rogerman

If I open an existing Excel spreadsheet and do nothing more than close it, I
am asked if I want to save the changes I have made when I haven't made any.
Can this question be stopped apart from when changes have actually been made?

The workbook may have volatile formulas that recalculate whenever the book
is opened. For example =TODAY(), =NOW()
Or the book may have been produced in an older version - Excel always
recalculates under these conditions. Nothing has to actually change; as long
as a recalc. occurs you will get the message on closing without saving.
You cannot stop either of these.
By the way: there are Excel newsgroups for Excel questions:

Thanks Bernard, I think it is formulas.
