office 2003 scan tools crash

When scanning documents I get messages about memory that could not be "read"
or "written" by mspscan.exe

I have been unable to find any mention of mspscan.exe in the ms kb. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled without success. Any help would be appreciated.
The scanner works fine with PaperPort but I would like to use MS document
imaging.
