Office 2003 , unable to open any old XP office documents

Roger Ramseier

I have just upgraded (Microsoft Subscription pack) from
XP office to 2003 office, and after install I am unable
to open Excel Documents (Tells me Virus scan has detected
problem), In word the message is (Unable to locate the
file) and in Access it does not open the file with no
messages. This is the same with Projects. I have not yet
tried Front Page and Visio.

Have got Norton Anti Virus Corporate edition and have
tried the above with real time protection as well as this
off.

Also tried to create a new file using Office 2003
(Excel) , save the file and again open it, same proble,
so it is not the old 2002 excel format causing this
problem

Have uninstalled completly , including XP oofice
components and have re-installed twice. Also have run a
full virus scan and found backdoor.Hacarmy virus, removed
this as per Instruction by Symantec and re-ran virus
scan , all clean.

as mentioned re-installed again and still the same
problem. Outlook works but unable to use email to send as
word not oppening , will work if I disable word as the
editor.

Thank you

Hi Roger,

Disable the OfficeAV add-in in Norton to see if it
makes a difference and visit http://officeupdate.com
to add the Office 2003 November update.

If you removed a virus you may need to then uninstall,
restart then install, some of the trojans can damage
the installed programs (not just Office) or Windows itself
as can the cleaning process in some cases.

Hi Roger,

I have the same problem with Office 2003 programs.
Software came loaded on new PC from Dell. I installed
Norton Anti Virus Corporate, but had problem with Office
prior to installation.

If you have luck fixing this problem, please let me know
what works.

Thanks
