Office 2003 Upgrade without previous version installed?

Hi,

I own Office 2000 and I would like to upgrade to Office 2003 however
from past experience upgrading such complex software often ends in
problems somewhere later on. What I would like to know is if I was to
reformat my system would I be able to install Office 2003 using the
upgrade version without having to have Office 2000 installed in the
first place? I know this can be done with Windows Upgrade CDs for a
clean install, all the setup does is ask for my original media for the
previous version to check that I can legally use the upgrade.

I do not want to purchase the full version as it is so expensive.

Thanks in advance.
