Office 2003 Using XP Updates (SP1, SP2, etc.)???

T

Trip Ives

Hello All,

I'm a little concerned here. Immediately after upgrading to Office
2003 I scanned for updates at offic.microsoft.com. Without realizing
it I gave it the go-ahead to install the selected updates. Half way
through SP2 I realized that it was updating with XP SPs and critical
patches. At one point it even asked to install the XP disk (which I
did since I was in the middle of an update).

Is this to be expected? And, if not, what should I do? A complete
uninstall and re-install?

Thanks for all the help!

Hi Trip,

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel. If you still have any Office XP/2002 family
products installed, such as Publisher or Frontpage
you will be offered the Office XP/2002 updates along
with the Office 2003 updates. They are independent
of each other.

In addition to what Bob has said, if you have no Office XP programs but are
using the Office XP Shortcut Bar, you will be given the Office XP updates
each time you use Office Update. Just ignore them if you are ONLY using the
Office XP Shortcut bar.
