Office 2004 misbehavior

Royce Herndon

A few months after moving from Office X to 2004, I tried to move back due to
some problematic behaviors. Unfortunately, X could not recognize my
database. The anomalies that persist are as follows:

1. Entourage persists in opening the Main Window without the Folder List
visible. I have to call it up from the View menu each time I open the
Entourage Main Window.
2. In Word, scrolling down through a document results in the text coming up
from the bottom of the page/screen being horizontally sliced in half with
the next line of revealed text being repeated over and over in this slashed
fashion.
3. Also in Word, some documents are showing up with virtually all words
within what seems to be some random range of lines underlined in red as
misspelled. Simple words that are clearly not misspelled. Stranger still,
the spell-checker tells me these words are not in the dictionary. Words like
³like², ³that², ³explain², ³call² and others that clearly are in the
dictionary.

I am wondering how to get free of all this, especially since I apparently
cannot go back to Office X.

Any thoughts are appreciated,

Hi Royce,

I have no clue about the Entourage problem, but Word problems should really
be posted to the Word newsgroup, for both quicker/better responses and the
sake of the archives.

Re #3, sounds to me like the language formatting for those documents is not
actually the language that you are writing in. See section 1 on this page:
http://word.mvps.org/mac/SpellCheck.html
If that doesn't fix it or you have questions, please follow up on the Word
newsgroup--repost the question and what you have tried so far.

Re #2, Word 2004 *does* have screen refresh issues, which are causing your
problem--please repost the question with more information on the Word
newsgroup, such as exact version of Word (which updates applied) and how
much memory in computer, and how often this occurs.

Daiya addressed the Word issues, so let me try to tackle your Entourage
one. Try this:

Close all Entourage windows but one main window. Configure it as you
wish. Close it. Quit Entourage. Re-launch. Does it stick?
