Office 97 Upgrade Wont Install on New Computer

I have viable CDs that I paid real money for and the
upgrade version of Office will not install on my new
Windows XP machine. Microsoft website indicates this
install problem (can't find eligible product during drive
search) exists. The install had worked fine previously on
Windows 98 machine. Spent $35 talking with customer
service debugging for over an hour. They offerred a one-
time fix. However, I need a longer-term fix. What
reasonable options are available for "damaged" products
like this that don't function as advertised?

Hi Sandy,

Not sure what 'one time fix' they would have provided you.

Office 97 upgrade CDs will install if you have the
diskette or CD for any of these qualifying products
you can insert it when validation of upgrade is requested.
The original Office 97 packaging for an upgrade edition
does say that having a qualifying product is required
for installing the upgrade. Your old machine may
have had one of these produts already there.

The upgrade product is not damaged.
