Office apps produce "stopped working" messages when exiting.

O

OpsTrainer

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 and Office Professional 2007. Both have all
the latest updates maintained through Windows Live One Care. I could not
have a more Microsoft system.

Virtually all of my Office applications produce a "stopped working" error
message and relaunch the application, when I exit the app. Usually, the app
restarts and I can exit the "relaunched" app successfully. That is, when it
restarts, I immediately shut the app down and it will close, from the empty
document.

This behavior is exhibited by ALL my Office 2007 applications (but, none of
the others). From a review of the posting containing "stopped working," it
would appear that the relationship between Vista and Office 2007 is the issue
because the behavior is apparently not exhibited on other platforms (XP).

I would like to NOT have to go through these errors and relaunchings when I
leave my Office apps. Please help resolve this issue.

Thanx!

Try running Office Diagnostics. Open Word, go to Office Button | Word
Options | Resources and run diagnostics from there.

O

OpsTrainer

Thank you for the suggestion. I ran the diagnostics and came up with no
problems from any of the tests that were run.

When I closed Word, the "stopped working" message appeared and it
automatically restarted Word. Closing the relaunched Word, the same thing
happened. Closing the third time brought up a third "stopped working"
message. This time, closing the app from the error message, a different
message came up that terminated the application.

Visio 2003 and PowerPoint 2007 did the same thing.

Any other suggestions?

Well, then I'd suspect an Office-wide add-in of some sort. Maybe Acrobat? Or
maybe a translation tool?

If you open PowerPoint and go to PowerPoint Options | Add-Ins, what's
listed? (I'm having you check PPT because I'm most familiar with it and its
add-ins.)

I DO have some common addins and, now that you mention it, this behavior
started after installing new software. There were two or three that I
installed at pretty much the same time. The big one was Adobe Design Suite
Premium CS3. Also did SnagIt and Camtasia Studio. All of these tie into
Office.

I'll pursue that line of troubleshooting.

Hmmmm odd that I and at least one other (not connected with your company)
have the same problems. There may well be an add-in connected with this but
perhaps if we all supplied what add-ins we have it might help narrow down
which one is causing the problem.

Have to admit from my own persepctive the only add-in's contained in it are
the ones with the product.

Any other suggestions..this is driving me nuts..and as mentioned in another
post this behaviour is reduced if i close the documents first....

Oh and running Word et al in Safe mode doesn't work either so it's not a
template issue either..

I think it is a ..errrr... bug..

You might be surprised at the add-ins. For example, if you install Adobe
Acrobat, chances are you have the Acrobat Office plug-in installed also. As
the other poster mentioned, SnagIt and Camtasia also have plug-ins to your

So, assuming you're using Office 2007 (since you said you have the same

I couldn't tell from your post whether you'd checked for add-ins or were
just going by memory, which is why I repeated my suggestion.

As for the link you provided, it goes to your search results and there's a
whole page of posts there, so I don't know which one you're referring to.
There's a "copy URL to clipboard" icon next to the printer icon that will
let you copy the URL of the specific thread.

Have to admit from my own persepctive the only add-in's contained in
it
are
the ones with the product.

Any other suggestions..this is driving me nuts..and as mentioned in
another
post this behaviour is reduced if i close the documents first....

Oh and running Word et al in Safe mode doesn't work either so it's
not a
template issue either..

I think it is a ..errrr... bug..

:

I DO have some common addins and, now that you mention it, this
behavior
started after installing new software. There were two or three that
I
installed at pretty much the same time. The big one was Adobe
Design
Suite
Premium CS3. Also did SnagIt and Camtasia Studio. All of these tie
into
Office.

I'll pursue that line of troubleshooting.

Thanx!

Well, then I'd suspect an Office-wide add-in of some sort. Maybe
Acrobat? Or
maybe a translation tool?

If you open PowerPoint and go to PowerPoint Options | Add-Ins,
what's
listed? (I'm having you check PPT because I'm most familiar with
it and
its
add-ins.)

Thank you for the suggestion. I ran the diagnostics and came up
with
no
problems from any of the tests that were run.

When I closed Word, the "stopped working" message appeared and
it
automatically restarted Word. Closing the relaunched Word, the
same
thing
happened. Closing the third time brought up a third "stopped
working"
message. This time, closing the app from the error message, a
different
message came up that terminated the application.

Visio 2003 and PowerPoint 2007 did the same thing.

Any other suggestions?

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 and Office Professional 2007.
Both
have
all
the latest updates maintained through Windows Live One Care.
I
could
not
have a more Microsoft system.

Virtually all of my Office applications produce a "stopped
working"
error
message and relaunch the application, when I exit the app.
Usually,
the
app
restarts and I can exit the "relaunched" app successfully.
That
is,
when
it
restarts, I immediately shut the app down and it will close,
from
the
empty
document.

This behavior is exhibited by ALL my Office 2007 applications
(but,
none
of
the others). From a review of the posting containing
"stopped
working,"
it
would appear that the relationship between Vista and Office
2007
is the
issue
because the behavior is apparently not exhibited on other
platforms
(XP).

I would like to NOT have to go through these errors and
relaunchings
when
I
leave my Office apps. Please help resolve this issue.

Thanx!

And I had checked my add-in's before posting that...thanks..

Thanks for that _ yes it os office 2007 -...if the only add-ins that show

else
can an add-in manifest itself here?

The only thing I can think of that is in the list you mention is Acrobat

Sorry but I just can't see any add-ins yet this behaviour is
exhibited..am i
missing something in Word / Excel AND Powerpoint?

You might be surprised at the add-ins. For example, if you install
Adobe
Acrobat, chances are you have the Acrobat Office plug-in installed
also. As
the other poster mentioned, SnagIt and Camtasia also have plug-ins to
your
Office applications. Translation software is another.

So, assuming you're using Office 2007 (since you said you have the same
problem as the other poster), I'll repeat this suggestion:

Do you only have add-ins that were installed with PowerPoint? What
about if
you check on the other applications that exhibit this behavior?

Hmmmm odd that I and at least one other (not connected with your
company)
have the same problems. There may well be an add-in connected with
this
but
perhaps if we all supplied what add-ins we have it might help narrow
down
which one is causing the problem.

Ah, I didn't realize the printer drivers were an issue in Word 2007 also. I
know they're problematic in PPT 2007, but since you were seeing the issue in
the other applications, too, I didn't even think to suggest that.

I bet you're right and that installing a different printer driver will clear
it up. Crossing my fingers for you.
