Office Assistant character files error

I just set up a new pc for an employee of my company. It
has Office 2003 on an XP Pro Operating system. Everytime
the user opens Word or Excel, she gets this error message:

"There is no Office Assistant character files present on
the system. Please run setup in maintenance mode and
install at least one character."

One of our techs went to her site (about 3 hours away)
and installed the Office Assistants. He even showed the
user that it was working (the dog was there). When she
got out of Word and reopened it, she then got the error
again.

Does anyone have any ideas?
