Office Hyperlinks to picture files open with wrong program

I insert hyperlinks to jpg or gif files in Word documents (Office 2002, Win
XP). These file types are associated with Irfanview but when I click on the
hyperlink, the image opens in MS Photo Editor.

How can I make these files open with the correct program?
