Office Impossibly Slow After Power Failure

After a power failure, word and excel have become unusably slow.
Minutes to open excel, ten seconds to type a number and move to the
next cell. It's not clear if Word actually opens at all.

A few months ago I had the same situation, and the fix was to erase
Normal.dot. That didn't help this time.

Any other ideas?

Office 97 on 2 Ghz PC running Win 2K.

This time the fix was erase some ~*.tmp files.

this is very weird problem.
try to clear your temporary internet files and delete all your tem
files.
