Office Student Teacher Edition 2003 Will Not Install

My operating systems is Windows ME. I called Microsoft before purchasing and
they confirmed I could install this software on my computer. When I insert
the install disc I get the following message: Requires a Newer Version of
Windows." Is there something that I can download to update my Windows or am
I stuck with a $130 product I can't use? Receipt says Best Buy will not
accept returns for opened software. Appreciate any help.
