office - student version

I've loaded the student version of Office and it all seems to work just fine but when I try to load a word document (2000) the program says the file isn't available. I tried several files, and also transferred a couple of files to another computer where they worked fine
any suggestions?

I did that - with several files. Also tried double clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer. It opened Word but again, said that the file wasn't available.

If you are running Norton AntiVirus, disable the Office Plug-in.

1) Do _not_ open a file that is on a floppy from within Word. You are asking
Word to trash your document.
2) Try opening the document after Word already (completely) open. I know
that (possibly because I have a number of Add-Ins that have to load) when I
double-click on a document in Windows and Word is not already open I will
often get a message like the one you are experiencing. If Word is open, the
document opens. Also, if I start Word and open the document from within
Word, it opens.

See the MVP FAQ: <URL: http://www.mvps.org/word/> which is awesome!

Its possible that the file might be on a removable media such as CD or
Floppy. Navigate directly to the document where it is located then open.
