Can both 2003 and 2007 exist on the same machine?

Not necessarily. If you do, you'll need to point the upgrade to a
qualifying product so leaving it installed is generally less hassle.

In separate directories, yes. With the exception of Outlook - you need to
choose one version.

the Thank you JoAnn;
I know this sounds stupid, But will you confirm that I will have to
uninstall the current trial version that came with the computer and reinstall
my Office XP Teachers edition? I dont believe the documents that were
created with th enew version will be affected cause I didn't use any new
features.

Thanks again for your response

Personally, I would suggest dumping the trial version. I've seen too many
problems that arise because it's still installed along with a retail
version.

Hi Jim,

While the Office 2003 Student and Teacher's Edition allowed 3 installs, the Office XP Student and Teacher's Edition was a single
machine install. You can move it from one computer to another, just not use it on two. If you run into problems with the
activation use the telephone activation method.

You can purchase Office 2003 trial conversion product key online
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831023/en-us?FR=1
(purchase the CD option as well), or you can purchase a complete boxed 2003 product at a retailer to have the CD right off. If
you purchase Office 2003 prior to 26Feb you may be eligible for the the free/low cost upgrade to Office 2007 as mentioned here:
