Office XP Custom Maintenance Wizard

Mike Preece

Using the custom maintenance wizard, I am unable to create
a maintenance wizard file that will set Word's default
save as to *.doc. This is required as we have rolled out
Office XP with the default save as set to Word 97/2002-RTF
and now wish to change this to the normal Word 2002
version.
When using the custom maintenance wizard you can set the
option to be configured but the setting is never saved
while all other settings are!

Hi Mike,

Hmmm, there's a bug in the CMW Wizard that looked
like it could be affecting this.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;288275
but it looks like since the setting for Word Document (.doc) in
the registry is a "" setting, it seems that
the Wizard isn't quite sure how to change a setting
back to a null one to go to a .DOC setting.

Do the logins you're using on the clients have the
ability/permissions to write the change to the
registry?

The default file format is stored in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options
and you can use the CMW screen 9 or other method to
patch the registry to the correct value by putting the key there.
