Office XP Prof with FrontPage

Chris Foster

I'm running Toshiba Notebook that came with XP Prof
already installed. I loaded XP Office. Has been running
nicely for months. It's coming up with 'Windows Install'
amd tries to install Microsoft Office XP Professional
with FrontPage' (which I have no idea what this is or if
I've already got it!) It then goes looking for a file
called PROPLUS.MSI and when it doesn't find it it asks
for a CD to be inserted, when I don't put one in it fails
with error 1706.

Now my questions, so many!
- how do i tell if I've got FrontPage?
- do I need it anyway?
- how do I stop Window Install activating everytime I get
into word/outlook/excell etc?
- Or do I need to install it and if so how?
Sorry, I'm not very technical.
Any help would be much appreciated. Chris
PS I've looked on the CDs that came with the Notebook and
the CD we bought to uopgrade the desktop to Windows XP
Prof and I can't find this file anywhere. If this is
missing how many more might be?

Hi Chris,

MS Office XP Professional with Front Page Edition
is a volume license only package. That CD should not
have been used to install on a new PC that was done
as a retail sale, in this case it would appear to
have been done by your PC retailer.

If you look at Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel see if that's the edition listed as installed.
If so, and the CD they provided was for the regular
MS Office XP Professional Edition you can contact
the supplier for the correct CD (error 1706 is 'original
installation media/installation point not found') or,
backup your files, uninstall the edition listed, restart
then install Office XP Professional from the CD you do
have. If it's the OEM edition you should also have
a CD for MS Publisher 2002, but you won't have
FrontPage.

Proplus.msi is the main installer file on the
Enterprise (with Frontpage) edition. ProRet.msi
is the main installer file on the Office XP Pro CD.
The MS Installer expects to always have access to
the source files for the edition used for the original
install.
