Office Xp update Network error

I tried updating my copy of office xp. It didn't come pre-installed on this
particular system, and I installed it myself. Whenever I try to utilize the
search for updates it comes back with a big fat note at the top of the page
reading:

NOTE: Detection shows that Office products on your computer have been
updated by your Office product administrator from the administrative
installation point on a server. This means that you should not update Office
products yourself. If you are an Office product administrator, please visit
the Office Resource Kit for more information.

And of course grays out any selections I could possibly make. Thus
disallowing me to update! I am the only person using my computer and I don't
have any clue about the "resource kit" SOMEBODY HELP!

How exactly did you install it yourself? The site believes you got it from an
Administrative Installation Point, which is how lots of corporations deploy
Office.
