The downloaded Office 2003 has expired and asks for a current Registration #.
I have an Office 2003 on my just on my other computer, but it has died. Why
can't I have this computer accept the number from the Office 2003 already
installed in my dead computer?

Because you need the original CD that came with your Office 2003 already
installed on your dead computer. If you don't have the CD then you need
to buy a new one from AMAZON. If the dead computer had an OEM version
of Office then there is nothing you can do. The rules states that your
right to use office has also died with that computer and so you will
certainly need to buy a new one.

And to continue Anon.'s comments, if you have a retail version of Office on
the dead computer, it would be able to be installed on the new computer but
you need to uninstall the trial version first and then install the full
version. A full version's key will not activate a trial version of the same
software just like an OEM Pro key won't activate the retail Pro version,
etc.

Because OEM software is limited to a specific computer. You paid less than
you would have if you'd bought a full retail version and this is one of the
limitations of having done so.
