OLAP access

It has been decided that all of our Team Members may use
Portfolio Analyzer.
I have added this functionality to the Team Members group
in the Admin interface and the menus are also visible but
the users receive an error message that states that they
probably don't have access to the OLAP cube.

As an administrator, I have been added to the OLAP
Administrators group on the Project Server database
server, so I can see everything.
Surely we don't have to add ALL users to this group for
them to see the Portfolio Analyzer views?

Any comments?

Hi Colin,

By default, you would need to add users to this group. However, I'm sure
you do not want them to be administrators, so there is another way. First,
you build the cube, then you can add roles that specify who can see what
information. Find the folder named C:\Program Files\Microsoft Project
Server\Help\1033 (the 1033 assumes you are using the English-language
version... if not, the number might be different). Then, open the file
called PJSVR10.CHM. Search for OLAP and you will find help on setting up
OLAP security.

Here is an excerpt from that help file to get you started:

1 Log on to the Analysis Services computer with a user account that
has permissions equivalent to either of the Administrators or OLAP
Administrators groups, and start Analysis Manager.
2 Expand the name of your server under Analysis Servers to see the
cube databases on that computer.
3 Right-click the name of the database (as shown in the Cube name box
of the Updates to Resource Tables and OLAP Cube page in Microsoft Project
Web Access), and then click Manage Roles.
4 Click New, and enter a name for the new database role in the Role
name box.
5 On the Membership tab, click the Add button to add users and groups
to the role.
6 Click OK.
7 On the Cubes tab, click Check All to enable access to all three
cubes in the database.
8 Click OK to add the role.
