Old SENT messages reappear

We have Exchange 5.5 with a Outlook XP client whereby the client's SENT items from Nov. suddenly reappeared inexplicably. My only hunch is that it has to do with her *.OST (offline folder) somehow. Does anyone know what may have caused this to happen?
