I have got the problem right now, that i can change something an my PC and i
want to get the change automatically to my laptop. Right now i am using

Thanks a lot.

If you make all of your notebooks shared notebooks, then you will stay
synced. I do the same thing on my desktop and laptop, since I never know
which I'm going to use to study.

So, make all of your notebooks shared, and then, on the "external" computer,
open the shared notebooks.

Don't use SyncToy with OneNote 2007. 2007 has a built-in synchronization
mechanism that is far superior to SyncToy. You want to have your actual
notebooks on the desktop in a shared folder and then open them from
there on your laptop (make sure that Offline Files is not activated for
that folder!)
That'll create a cached copy on your laptop and ON will sync them
automatically for you.

I am having serious trouble in sharing folders within vista business ed (both
laptop and desktop). After playing around with the pccillin firewall (mainly
the NetBIOS settings) I got it to work, and was able to open large (~300MB)
notes. Then other errors appeared and I just can't get it to work anymore.
(like "local name already in use" "different user name", etc).

Instead of sharing a folder, I have also tried creating a shared notes, both
the "i will use multiple comps" and "multiple ppl will share". Can find it
but access denied or different user names etc.

Ok, now i'm giving up on the shared businees, and decided to upload the
notes to an external ftp.

Trying to open even a small notebook on the ftp causes ON2007 to hang there
(waited more than 15 minutes). The ftp is up and has an average bandwidth of
160kB/s. Any clues to why?

Thanks!

Why don't you explain to use how you did the sharing folder business?
Meaning, which folder did you share, where was the notebook in relation
to that folder and what do you mean with opening large notes?
You should:
a) Share a folder
b) Create all notebooks in that folder (or move existing notebooks into
it)
c) from each client, say File, Open Notebook and open each notebook
d) Wait till all notebooks are fully synched
e) Use them and not care anymore about it

In addition to Patrick's reply (which was a bit shorter than usual
<g>):
The main thing is *not* to store any notebook on the laptop (and
therefore also to *exclude* the directory holding the OneNote
notebooks on the PC from normal synching).

So remove the notebooks you presently have on your laptop.

Then in ON on your laptop open the notebooks sitting on the PC via the
network. Every notebook opened this way will be *cached* on the laptop
and you will work in the cache.
Most important: Do not close the notebooks on the laptop.

As long as the two computers are connected each and any changes made
on either device are synched automatically in both directions.
When the laptop is disconnected from the network one keeps working
with the cache.
And as soon as the laptop is re-connected to the PC, the data will be
synched automatically (in both directions).

This basic concept of ON makes it the most sophisticated piece of
PC-software I've seen so far if it comes to replicating data.

P.S. In addition you may read the article on synching in Chris
Partley's blog:

I'd rather not bore you with the previous attempts. I just had it fixed.
Might have something to do with trend micro's internet security 2007 clashing
with spybot (this takes almost all of the resources). Once that is fixed, I'm
able to connect to the folder, but then I get an access denied.

Then, instead of \\<my comp name>\<my shared folder>, I used \\<my (static)
ip address>\<my shared folder>, and it worked- a login box popped, logged in,
everything works.

One side note is that, sharing the default notes folder or any subfolder of
the c:\users seems a bad idea. Sharing it will automatically also share
(parts of) the Users folder, which for me contained a supposedly "hidden"
Defaults folder and another folder and some other files, notably one that
contained my username, like name.profile or something.

Still haven't figured out why the ftp thing didnt work tho.

Happy new year guys.

Gosh. a 300 Meg Note ? I can't see a file like that being all that
stable.
OneNote 2007 is a very interesting product, but hearing about file
sizes like this scares me.

It's not just one note though. It is an organizational structure like a
tabbed spiral notebook, and in 2007 you can have multiple notebooks. So you
can have a home notebook, and one for school, and one for work. In each you
have tabs for dividers. The school one could be divided in courses for
example. Then there are pages within the tabs. When you started adding
pictures and sounds to the pages, things can grow quickly, but you needn't
worry about the file size. That's how it is designed.

How might this work?
I'd rather assume that you did something wrong with setting the share.
IMHO it's not possible that a share set on a certain level of the
directory-hierachie will work for levels *above* the level the share
is set for.
Due to inheritance the share would work for levels *below* (if this is
activated).

Apart from that:
I have my notebooks outside the "Documents and Settings" hierarchie
(on my data-partition where I store all of "My Documents" etc.
[different from Windows' defaults). This way there is no danger of
making things public.
Still haven't figured out why the ftp thing didnt work tho.

Sharing notebooks via FTP does not work.
