OneNote cache suddenly failed -- what to do?

On the road, no VPN access, so I don't have the network drive that I
keep my notebooks on accessible. Normally that's no problem, I just
work in the cache, and when I get to a more reasonable network
connection, everything syncs the way it is supposed to. Normally.
Today, however, I started by using Send to OneNote from IE8, and what
I got was an error. Here's what it says in OneNote:

"There are no sections open in this notebook or section group."

This is true for every notebook (about a dozen of them). It's also
true for Unfiled Notes.

Suggestions? Is there any way I can get my cache back?? Or am I
basically SOL until I can resync? And how do I keep this from
happening again?

Thanks for listening.

Create a temporary notebook.
Change the location for Web notes to the temporary notebook in
Tools-Options-Send to OneNote.

That helps me for saving the new stuff, thank you, that's a good
idea.

Alas, it still leaves me without, for example, the information about
my current trip, which is stored in the cache. Any known way to get
access to the cache back? It makes OneNote rather less useful if I
can't count on access to my data offf-line, and that's one of the use
cases supported in the current design. Thanks.

You have a few options - this article may help clarify your thinking:

I know that article well. Not useful here -- the behavior described
is exactly what didn't happen! I use the cache all the time when I'm
off-line, but this time, OneNote was not letting me do it.

BTW, my current hotel has VPN service, and when I connected up again,
OneNote instantly noticed that my notebooks were all in sync -- it was
NOT rebuilding the cache from scratch, I had to do that once a year
ago, it's a very slow process with all of my notebooks -- so somehow
OneNote was thinking that the cache wasn't there when it was. So now
I'm wondering, how do I keep this from happenig again??
