only copy emails from Exchange server remotely

Bob Vancouver

Hi
i am connected with a VPN to our server and am collecting my emails remotely
when I am online. Unfortunately i am eliminating the copies from the exchange
server each time I connect and I no longer can access them at the office or
remotely over the web from another computer.
I must have some setting wrong as this never occurs on my other desktop
computer which is connected over the VPN, but that computer connects to an
empty exchange server

Can anyone advise me on correcting this condion.
I would like to have copies of the emails on my laptop, home desktop, and
the exchange server.

thanks
Bob

Bob,

It sounds as though your Outlook is setup to deliver emails to a personal
folder and not to the mailbox on the server. If you are on Outlook 2002 or
2003 go to Tools - Email Accounts - Deliver New Email to the Following
Location. Change it to be the mailbox. This will allow you to keep your
emails and such on the server and access them via VPN or the web. Also, you
can set-up your laptop to store the emails off-line on your laptop if you
are not able to connect to VPN. Just set up the send and receive under
Tools. This is useful if you do not have VPN connection to use.

Are you connecting to the Exchange server via an Exchange account or another
type. In addition to Francine's advice, which applies to an Exchange
account type, if you're connecting to the Exchange server via a POP account
and you don't have set the option to leave copies of messages on the server,
then you'll lose them from the server.
