Open attachment with Word instead of Works

I am using Office 2007. When I open an attachment and get the question do
you want to save or open the file it will not display and Works program opens
instead of Word. Can anyone help me find the setting so Word will open when
I try to open an attached file. I am using Vista Ultimate operating system.

What purpose does Works serve, if you have Office 2007 installed, surly its
superfluous?
Uninstall Works, reboot, use Office Diagnostics

Do you have Windows XP or Vista? There's a slight difference but if you are
unfamiliar with changing the associations, it's best to give you specifics.

Some computers come with Works. Perhaps Office was a separate purchase. The
nice thing is that if the OP would decided to sell/give the computer to
someone else, they could uninstall Office and the system still has some sort
of a word processor.

Hi JoAnn, I have Visa Ultimate. I am sorry for the delay in getting back to
you, but I have been out of town. I would appreciate any help you can give
me with changing my associations. This is an area that is very foreign to me.
